The Untold Gandhi...

Smriti Irani (Bahu of Saas bhi kabhi bahu...) is all set to launch a TV serial depicting the untold story of Gandhi. So we will finally get to see:
  • A good looking, uncannily fashionable Gandhi
  • Evil British officers with devillish looking smiles
  • British officers' wives with garish make-up and long bindis
  • Gandhi having a car accident and losing his memory... to become Nehru for a while?
  • Gandhi's Ba outliving him by several generations out of public demand
Yup, it's an untold story alright...

Why the criticism and presumptions even before the serial is launched?
And Gandhi was fashionable till he decided to go all Khaadi...check your history textbook. It will have a suit-clad Gandhi being pushed out of a train in South Africa.
Gandhi was not born in a dhoti :)

Yes, but that is not the way we know Gandhi now do we? Also, that has nothing to do with how he is going to be portrayed.

Criticisms and presumptions, yes because these guys have managed to bungle up our mythological stories into a silly joke (Kahani Mahabharat Ki, wasn't it? or did I miss any extra K's ;) ). Will Smriti Irani do better? Full credit to her if she does.

Btw, did you know that there's actually also a belief that Sita was fascinated by Ravan and she invited him inside the kutiya for a little 'rest' ;)

Well at least Salman Rushdie tells it that way in Shalimar the Clown... it does kind of fit in with the idea of Ram asking her to go on a vanvaas after he rescues her...

How can sita invite Ravan inside the kutiya?? It was because of the lakshmanrekha that Sita had to step out to give bhiksha to Ravan who had taken up the form of a "sage".

Yeah, what he says is that Sita invited Ravan inside, which effectively broke the Lakshmanrekha. We can find out from the original Ramayan. But then how do we know which is the actual Ramayan?
